Academic Coaching

Academic coaching is a type of performance coaching designed to help students of all ages and skill level to meet their scholastic demands.  It is not tutoring or homework help. When you work with an academic coach, you are taught strategies that relate to many different areas of your school work.

How can an academic coach help me?

Depending on your particular needs, your coach may work with you to accomplish any of the following:

  • Utilize a full array of test-taking strategies
  • Practice better time management for tests, studying, or school work in general
  • Use new study techniques
  • Prepare for your exams more efficiently
  • Reduce your performance anxiety
  • Structure your workload and homework/study schedule
  • Take more effective notes in class
  • Manage the symptoms of your ADHD
  • Decide what to major in or what the next step is in your academic career
  • Understand and manage the impact of your learning disability
  • Learn to work smarter, not harder
  • Manage your school stress
  • Implement strategies for focus and concentration
  • Learn organizational skills

How does academic coaching work?

At your first coaching session, Dr. Romirowsky will ask you questions about your academic performance and challenges. She will also review transcripts and any school psychology reports you may have.  Together you will set goals for yourself and a schedule for your coaching sessions.  At each subsequent session, you will focus on a particular skill and review progress achieved thus far.  An emphasis will be placed on using strategies that can be applied across different situations and adopting a problem-solving stance that will serve you for years to come.
